Auto-forward disabled no NDR

Hello all,
We have auto-forward disabled in our Exchange 2003 environment. Why is
it that when some one sets up a rule to do auto-forwarding that no NDR or
error of any kind is received? The rule just fails, an the client has no
idea anything is wrong other than the mail did not make it to the
recipients. What's also odd is that the message shows up in their "Sent
Items" folder. Is this "normal behaviour"?

Thanks.

I had to test that out as most of my users know I would flip a bit if I
found out they were trying to forward business mail out of the network. So I
have never had that complaint.
Anyways I believe that's the default behavior.

Thanks Martin. It would have been nice of Exchange to provide some sort of
notice to the sender that their mail did not get sent. Without contacting IT
and having policies explained to them, how would they ever know?

Thanks again.

I honestly don't know. Never thought of it. But I imagine they would know
when it doesn't work.
I imagine it would go something like this:

User sets up auto forward.
Auto forward doesn't work.
User calls me.
I tell user that forwarding corporate email out into wild would be a
security violation.
User complains for a second.
I offer to conference HR in so we can have a discussion about email, company
property, and security.
User says never mind.
I wish the user a happy holiday.
User hangs up muttering.
I go have a beer at lunch.

If Exchange returned a NDR to a mailbox forwarding all  messages what
do you think might happen?
