pop3 virtual server - does not start automatically

Hi,

I have an exchange 2003 server on windows 2003 standard which is a DC.
Everytime the server restarts because of updates, the microsoft exchange pop3
server starts, but the virtual server is not started. I have to start it
manually and everything is fine.

Anybody has an idea why? Everything is configured in a standard way. Don't
see any errors in the event viewer.

Thanks

Hi Sleb,  after updating Exchange 2003 were you able to start automatically
the Exchange POP3 virtual server?

I have fully updated Exchange 2003 with SP2 (it's running in a DC as well)
but I still manually need to start the virtual server since it won't start by
default (even when the Exchange POP3 server service does start).

Any idea anybody else?

Thanks.

Hi Egos,

Yes after installing exchange sp2, for me now everything is fine. I don't
have no other answers for you.

Sorry.

I found a very useful information from Jerry Zhao in this post
(http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/tree/browse_frm/thread/3527af6063650d7b/7c51b1792a606233?rnum=1&_done=%2Fgroup%2Fmicrosoft.public.windows.server.sbs%2Fbrowse_frm%2Fthread%2F3527af6063650d7b%2F7c51b1792a606233%3F#doc_d4d58d73cd9dee5a)
which basically says that the POP3Svc service needs to have added
MSExchangeSA as a service dependency.

===========================================
1.  Go to start and then run and type in regedit.

2.  Navigate to the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\POP3Svc

3.  Right click on DependOnService entry and select modify

4.  In a new line below IISAdmin entry type in MSExchangeSA and click Okay.

5. Close registry editor.
===========================================

I did that but still haven't had the chance to restart the server. I'll let
everyone know how this goes.

Well if I understand right and your issue is the same as mine was, the pop3
service starts, but in exchange manager it is not (virtual server). So doing
what is said in your suggestion will not do anything since it's regarding the
pop3 service in services.msc, not the pop3 virtual server in exchange.
