How do i close an already open port?an outlook 2007 client will not connect to exchange 2003. This client is normally OK along with all the other clients on this exchange server but today the exchange server is holding ports open to the client, even when the client is not on the network. the client has been rebooted to completely clear all its ports, however the exchange server continues to hold 4 ports open to the client - this is preventing the connection between the client and server for outlook. the ports are 2398,2403,2405 and 2407. This has happened before but unfortunately i did not record the port numbers that were causing the issue. all 4 ports show as 'established' when i do a netstat -a on exchange. Previously, in order to resolve this i had to pull the cable out of the back of exchange and give it time to drop all connections before i could plug back in. This is a sledge hammer fix and obviously knocks the entire client base off exchange. Is there a way i can kill those specific ports so that a new set can be established with the client without disrupting all my other users? Thank you! Hi,
I have not seen this issue, but have you considered just dismounting the store the user resides on - far less destructive than pulling the enthernet cable out. Oliver That would have pretty much the same effect, all my users are in the same
store. I'm trying to avoid disrupting anyone except this problem user. I take it you're not aware of a way to kill/close a specific port on WS2003? Thanks for the reply... :o) Show quoteHide quote "Oliver Moazzezi [MVP]" wrote: > Hi, > > I have not seen this issue, but have you considered just dismounting the > store the user resides on - far less destructive than pulling the enthernet > cable out. > > Oliver > > > I can't believe there isn't a way to do this - does anyone know how? this is

Do you have the ports hard-coded in a firewall Nope, read my original post - nothing is hard coded, the ports just seem to > or something? get 'locked' open on the exchange server. Nothing short of dropping the network connection altogether clears them. Do you know of a way to manually clear specific ports in WS2003?
