Exchange 2007 Migration questionsanswers. 1. Is it ok to run the CAS and Hub Transport on the same server? 2. Is it ok to run the CAS and Hub Transport roles on a VM server? 3. Is there really a need to cluster if you are using SAN Snap Mirror to replicate data across to a DR site? The server already boot from the SAN so why use a cluster like LCR or CCR when I can just turn on the server at the DR site and have the same image? Number of employee: 65 No limit per mailbox High Level of activity Currently 2 Exchange 2003 Servers with a total of 600GB information Store and using Symantec Enterprise Vault 8 for archiving. Thanks for the help Aaron On Tue, 24 Feb 2009 09:53:02 -0800, ANorton

SnapMirror is a lot better than SCR when you need to move back from the DR site into production. SCR is no better or no worse than using SnapMirror to go TO the DR environment. I won't go any further with that but safe to say I have conversations with our customers on what to implement, when and why. Sometimes we suggest SCR, sometimes SnapMirror. It's all about the customer. You would never use LCR with NetApp because you can roll back to a previous Snap just as quickly as initiating an LCR copy. It's a 100% waste of storage for the benefit of no more than "8 seconds" worth of uptime. CCR is a different matter. Lots of our PS staff are none too keen on CCR because it's generally more complicated than conventional (I'm not really sure about that) SCC. If you have at least two pairs of Filers then CCR makes sense if you're putting different servers against different heads. If you have a single clustered pair then your second best option is to put the two servers on oposing heads. If you have a single setup (FAS2020 for example) then CCR is pointless. Booting from SAN is excellent. If you have enough bandwidth to drive service from location B whilst the users are in location A then mirroring the LUNs (ok FlexVols) to the other site and running the DR box using the production image is an excellent idea. >Number of employee: 65 What FAS are you on, what are you mirroring to? I would have a conversation with your VAR (partner) or your wonderful storage vendor directly on this to give you a view of all your options. This newsgroup isn't great for a detailed analysis.
