what comes with Exchange Server 2007

We purchased a license for Exchange Server Enterprise 2007 (on the Open Value
program) a couple of years ago as well as media kits for both Exchange
Enterprise 2003 and 2007. We installed Exchange Enterprise 2003 then and are
now looking to migrate to 2007. The 2003 media kit we received included both
Exchange 2003 and a seperate CD with MS Outlook 2003. The Exchange Enterprise
2007 media kit is a single DVD with no sign of Outlook 2007. Does Exchange
Enterprise 2007 not include Outlook 2007? That seem hard to believe.

Believe it.
Exchange 2007 no longer includes Outlook CAL's.

Yes. This is a real disappointment for a lot of people. However, since you
really want your version of Outlook to match your version of MS Office,
which you'd likely have anyway, it isn't that bad.

This is all part of Microsoft's strategy to keep Outlook out of Office
H&S. If it was in H&S, businesses would leech it. If they give you
Outlook with Exchange, businesses would leech Office H&S. This way, it
sucks the most for everyone. Everyone except... Microsoft.

Found that out the hard way trying after an Exchange 2007 install and
wondering what the hell I had done with the Outlook that surely had come
with it...

Home and Student.

In Office 2003, Outlook was included in H&S. Hence, alot of small
business guys bought H&S for their 3 office PCs. Now, it's not included
in Office 2007 H&S, which is aggravating since Outlook is useful to
folks who might be at home, or a student... and they don't give it to
you with Exchange, because then you could load it and then... go get H&S
for your office PCs.

This brings up a good point. What obvious advantages will my users realize if
we upgrade to Exchange/Outlook 2007 from 2003?

You might check your SA agreement, if you are still active you might qualify
for Outlook 2007 license.  If you are unsure contact Microsoft Licensing or
your Software VAR where you originally purchased the SA.
