I have a sbs2003 sp1 server that is doing EVERY thing for a small company I
just started working at. It worries me that this server is doing it all, my
question is, is there anyway to move just the mail exchange to a server 2008
standard server?

Thanks

Larry,

You can migrate to SBS2008 or you can introduce Exchange 2003 or 2007 into
the equation. There are detailed step by step articles for this type of
scenario on the Internet. Check Google for more info.

SBS is an all in one package and unless your company is outgrowing it, or
your hardware is inadequate, it's just as it should be. You could add
another Exchange server, but that would be pricy for an SBS shop and I'm not
sure you'd get much benefit. If this server is underpowered, the better
option is to move to better hardware. At any rate, I suggest you post in
microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs for more SBS help.

Technically this is no problem. Just add the new server to the SBS domain,
install Exchange 2007 and move the mailboxes. But the customer has to pay
for the server licences for Windows Server 2008 and Exchange 2007 and needs
new CALs too for both products. Also, doing this will break most of the
great SBS wizards.
