Need to forward inbound emails to certain address to SMS server

We have emails coming into a servicerequest@domain email address, which in
turn is forwarded out to some internal addresses in addition to maintenance
personnel in the field, the latter going to their cell phones via SMS. The
inbound email reaches all internal mailboxes, but the same rule doesn't
forward the emails to the SMS users. Conversely, if any internal users sends
an email to the servicerequest@domain, all users including SMS users receive
it.

In a nutshell we've created contacts in Exchange for the SMS users, and
we've added the SMS email addresses to a group that also includes internal
users. Occasionally, an email seems to sneak out to a SMS user, but I can't
any rhyme or reason as to why it works when it does.

Thanks

Version & SP levels of everything might help....plus NDRs, and message
tracking, SMTP logging you've seen.

Win2K3 SBS Standard, SP2 with latest SBS SP. Exchange is at SP2 as well.
There are no NDRs, there is nothing in the message tracking, nothing in the
SMTP logging. But again, I see the message information in all of these when I
send it from an internal user.

I need to clarify that in the message tracking and logs, I see the inbound
service request go to internal users - there just isn't anything to the SMS
server. It doesn't appear to even try to deliver the email.

Are the external/SMS addresses AD contacts?
Have you tried creating servicerequ***@domain.com as a distribution group
instead of a mailbox, and then adding mailboxes and AD contacts to it? This
would be a lot cleaner.

I don't especially like forwards - I think they're clumsy and error prone.
Also, not that I control your budget, you might consider just getting
ActiveSync-capable devices for the field techs rather than relying on SMS
messaging.
