Rehire not showing up in the GAL

We have a user that was reactivated in active directory.  The exchange
2003 mailbox can be found in the store in sys mgr and e-mail can be sent
to the user's e-mail address. If I look in the default GAL and the
offline GAL, the user account is missing.  I've rebuilt the offline and
all the RUS (also up-date now) on the domain with no change in the GAL.
I've checked the Event Viewer and it seems to be clean.

Network info:

w2k3 sp2  AD servers
w2k3 sp2  exchange 2k3 build 7638.2 SP 2 back end
w2k3 sp2  exchange 2k3 build 7638.2 SP 2 front end

Suggestions?

Thanks.

It may take time for replication to take place, how long have you waited?

Hi,

Thank you for posting.

From your post, I understand the reactivated user cannot be located in GAL
and Offline GAL. Nevertheless, you can send email to the user. If I'm off
base, please feel free to let me know.

At this time, please let me know how you check the GAL and Offline Gal.
Whether the user can be located if you user OWA or have Outlook works in
Online Mode.

If the user can be located in OWA or when Outlook works in Online Mode, we
need to focus on OAB generation or distribution.
If the user still cannot be located in OWA or when Outlook works on Online
Mode, we need to check the GAL update issue.

Sincerely,
Mike Shen

Mike,

I checked the GAL  via System Mgr, Recipients, all Global Address List,
then right click Default Global Address List, properties, Preview.

In non-cached mode [outlook 2007], (unchecked the box [use cached
Exchange Mode] on the Change E-mail Settings page, exited outlook via
file exit).  Then, I did a send/receive "download off line address book"
full details with the download changes since last send/receive
unchecked, the user still cannot be located.

User can log into OWA to view mail.

I do not know if this may effect the situation; the user was moved from
one folder in AD to another folder, From Inactive Accounts Folder to
Users Folder.

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for your response.

I understand you cannot locate the user via ESM->Recipient->All Global
Address Lists->Default Global Address List->Preview. In addition, the user
cannot be located in GAL when Outlook works in Online Mode.

At this time, I suggest you force AD replication firstly

Force Replication Between Domain Controllers
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816926.aspx

After that, please check whether the user can be located via
ESM->Recipient->All Global Address Lists->Default Global Address
List->Preview. If the user still cannot be located, please check whether AD
replication issue exists by referring to following article. Please let me
know how many DC/GCs exist in the environment

Troubleshooting Active Directory Replication Problems
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727057.aspx

How to use DNSLint to troubleshoot Active Directory replication issues
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321046/en-us

In addition, please also dump the problem user object to me
(v-mis***@microsoft.com) for further check. You can refer to following
article:

XADM: Alternative Methods to Obtain a Dump of an Object
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271201/en-us

Mike,

Forced AD replication between our DCs (2DCs).
SM->Recipient->All Global Address Lists->Default Global Address
List->Preview. No listing for user ==>(gfurrow).
Troubleshooting AD Replication ==> no problems found.
DNSlint ==> found nothing
sending user dump to you.

Thanks.

Hi David,

Thanks for your response.

I am glad to know the issue could be solved after modify the
msExchHideFromAddressLists attribute of the problem user.

I remember reading about this problem being a permission issue. There
was an error in the event log.

For what it's worth.
