Hi,

I have an Exchange 2007 server with 8GB RAM. We only have one server and it
is a CAS,HUB and Transport server with less than 300 mailboxes. I noticed
that my Available RAM is only about 7%. Do i need more RAM?

Thanks

Does Exchange Best Practice Analyzer provide any performance issues or
recommendations regarding memory usage?  Are you experiencing any Exchange
issues currently?  Its not uncommon for Exchange to use all available memory
and release it as needed for other programs.

I ran the Health Check using BPA and i don't see any critical or warning
issues reported related to memory. I am also not experiecing any problem. It
just that the available memory shown is quite low and wether i need to take
corrective action.

Thanks

You should be good to go but I would suggest upping your memory since memory
is cheap.

Hi,

If you only have 7% free, that's 573MB of ram free. I would definitely add
more ram.

8GB is the minimum recommended amount for a Server with all Roles, but
sizing it with 300MB mailbox would put it up to around 10-12GB of ram.

That's 300 mailboxes. Obviously not enough coffee and Redbulls this morning

Run the best practices tool.
But I would say that 8GB is probably the min I would run that configuration
with.

7%?  Strange things happen when physical memory runs low.  One of them is
system wide working set trimming, where each process dumps a quarter of the
RAM allocated to it.  It's like constantly being in cold start.  I'd add
more RAM.  I'd also take a look at
http://blogs.technet.com/mikelag/archive/2007/12/19/working-set-trimming.aspx
