Exchange 2k3 backup and restore using ntbackup

Hi,
I want to test the backup / restore procedure of my Exchange 2003.

To do this I created a test domain (win 2003 server) and I installed
exchange 2k3 on the server.

Using a client I can join the test domain, use outlook and send mail from
user to user of the test domain.
I created some public folders and sent some mails, then I performed a
ntbackup of the information store.
After the backup (that completed succesfully) I deleted some mail and the
public folders.

After the deletion, I run ntbackup restore of the information store. The
restore completes succesfully, but I cannot see the deleted mails and public
folders.

What's wrong?
Thanks

Did the restore go to a recovery storage group?  If so you'll need to use
Exmerge to copy items from it to the production mailbox.

Hi Ed,
thanks for your reply.
No, I didn't create any recovery storage group.

That would be the way to do the kind of restore you're trying to do.  The
only reason you'd want to overwrite your production database is a
catastrophic recovery where the database was corrupted or something like
that.

Also, if you overwrite the production database without deleting the log
files, the logs will replay after the restore, redoing the deletions.

Thanks Ed: this could be the problem.
Any guide for the procedure?
