mx record change the way it's listed

My client has email hosted by a nice company.

their record is currently mx.something.com

tomorrow, I want to change this to office.something.com and notify the isp
and registrar.

I'm wondering if this will go as smoothly as I think or is there something I
need to know about changing this?

Can someone with experience offer some advice on "gotchas" that I might
encounter?

Thanks

Does the service provider offer a service like antispam/antivirus, et al? If
yes, are you bringing that in-house? If it drops substantial number of
spam/infected/invalid messages, you will have to make sure your SMTP gateway
box(es) can handle the volume.

Other than that, just need to make sure name resolution works on external
DNS zone and there are no issues with connectivity. If possible, reduce the
TTL in DNS a day before, and make sure you don't terminate their service
till a few days later (after switching MX).
