Exchange 2003? Or another option?

Before my company drops the big $ on Exchange 2003 I would like to
toss out this question to all that are currently using Exchange 2003.
My boss found out (from another IT guy) about OWA and how you can
share contacts and calendars and such right from the web, my question
is... Would it make sense to have a small business (5 clients) invest
in Exchange 2003 for a portal that you can log on to, for checking
email and a shared calendar?

I guess my boss likes the idea that he can be anywhere (since he's
never at the office) and check email, but most importantly add things
to do on a shared calendar so that others can follow up. This would be
our first exchange install and I really don't know how crazy it would
be, but is there another intuitive product out there that is like
OWA, that would provide the same sort of features? Any help would be
greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance!  :)
