email problemrecieving is problematic. Some just don't arrive, others take up to 1 day before they are received. As an example, test emails to admin@<domainname>.com.au, techsupport or sales, sent from hotmail simply do not arrive. There are no error msgs or errors in event viewer, plus the daily server report shows all OK, appart from getting an error from the time server occasionally. The A record points to our FQDN, ISPs MX records are also OK [according to them, and we have no reason to refute this]. I can use telnet to talk to exchange on port 25, the Linksys WAG54G modem/router forwards ports to the server 192.168.16.2 firewall and DHCP are disabled in the router. OS is SBS2003 Standard Edition with SP1. Any help to resolve this would be appreciated, we are all new to SBS so bear with us. rgds Robert Do you get a bounce message (NDR) at the hotmail account that sent the test
messages? When you did your telnet test test did you do so from outside your LAN? Did you telnet by IP address or my domain name? What firewall are you using? -- Show quoteAloha, -Ben- Ben M. Here's an update on the situation, I had a think about the error below and re examined the routers settings. "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" was enabled, so after reversing this I tested my mail from DNSreport.com, this time there were no errors. More importantly, a swag of emails suddenly appeared in my inbox, some from two days ago, could it be that having BAIR enabled was the cause ?. I can't see the connection between that and exchange but as stated in my initial post here, we are all new to this. rgds Robert Show quote "Li'l Roberto" <whoisit@spam.invalid.net> wrote in message news:OZhp05f9FHA.4004@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > Ben > I checked with DNSreport.com and all was OK EXCEPT the following: > FAIL Connect to mail servers ERROR: I could not complete a connection > to one or more of your mailservers: > mail.racomcomputers.com.au: Timed out [Last data sent: [Did not > connect]] > > PASS Mail server host name in greeting OK: All of your mailservers > have their host name in the greeting: > > secmx.sa.chariot.net.au: > 220 secmx2.sa.chariot.net.au ESMTP Postfix > secmx.vic.chariot.net.au: > 220 secmx2.vic.chariot.net.au ESMTP Postfix > > > > Does this give yo a better understanding of what the problem might > be. > Also this AMs server report had one critical error which as never > been reported before: > > Source Event ID Last Occurrence Total Occurrences > DCOM 10009 30/11/2005 9:03 PM 1 > DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer > mail.leadersystems.com.au using any of the configured protocols. > > > rgds > Robert > > > "Ben M. The only thing that I can't do is telnet into your server by name or IP. Just to be clear, I can telnet into other mailservers. This concludes to me that your connection is the problem, port 25 just won't come through. You could try to disable the firewall for a few minutes and see what happens. Marcel |
