Exchange 2003 & other possible equipment needed?Hello,
My question is regarding Hosting multiple domains on 1 SBS 2k3 Exchange 2k3 server. This server is currently hosting 4 different companies and Domain names. E-mail has worked fine (sending/receiving) for over a year now for each of the domains. Since some of the ISP’s have started to require a Reverse DNS PTR record matching to a domain name we had a little trouble. The current ISP we have will only allow one entry per domain name. I have read that you can have multiple per IP but it still might not help per each ISP we try and send to. So 1 of our domain has the reverse and all works fine for that domain and here is my question. Do I need an IP for each of the 4 domains and if so what is the best way to handle this software/hardware. We currently have 1 Symantec Appliance as the router connected to a T1. Do I need a separate router for each IP? What changes in Exchange 2k3 might be needed? Thanks. Haven't come across an ISP that looks up a PTR of a sending host and
requires it to match the sender hostname - as long as the IP has a PTR at all that should work. (If that weren't the case, it wouldn't be possible to host multiple domains on a single box). If you have specific information to share - like which ISP rejects mail based on the fact that sending host does not have a PTR that maps to a host in the email sender's domain, please post. -- Show quoteBharat Suneja MCSE, MCT www.zenprise.com blog: www.suneja.com/blog ----------------------------------------- "XTMAN" <Jerry.Bog***@bdcon.com.(donotspam)> wrote in message news:C9DFBFF7-DBDA-4452-B15D-299C911A38D4@microsoft.com... > Hello, > > My question is regarding Hosting multiple domains on 1 SBS 2k3 Exchange > 2k3 > server. I just spoke with the user and they sent the NDR's to me. Of the 4 domains 1 is listed as the RDNS. I was incorrect in my original statement. It does not appear they are requiring the RDNS to match as you stated. Thank goodness. If ISP’s do start requiring this would we have to have a separate exchange server/public IP for each with it’s own RDNS? Or are there any other possibilities? Thank you for your time.
