Moving Exchange 2003 to new server.Hello,
I need to move my windows 2003/ exchange 2003 server to a brand new windows 2003/ exchange 2003 server. What is the best way to go? Is it more beneficial to have the "new" server named the same as the "old" server I'm replacing, or use another name? I need to move the whole thing i.e. mailboxes, public folders etc.. I am planning to do this on a weekend so the mail system can be offline. Any info / paper / site info would be appreciated. Thank you, Russ W. A. Install Exchange on the member server
B. Move all mailboxes to the new server C. Rehome all public folders D. Remove the first server in the site see: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;152959 Move Mailbox improvements in Exchange 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822892&product=exch2003 And if you want to keep the same Exchange server name, follow this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822945&product=exch2003 off course, back up before you do anything, and back up after you finish! Good luck :) Loay Olabi MCSA, MCSE Website: http://www.olabinet.net Blog: http://www.olabinet.net/loay Show quote "RussW" wrote: > Hello, > > I need to move my windows 2003/ exchange 2003 server to a brand new windows > 2003/ exchange 2003 server. > What is the best way to go? Loay,
One more question...Does the server name matter? Should I keep the same server name, or no? Anything inparticular I need to know for either choice? Thank you again!! Russ W. You can't keep the same server name. But for Outlook MAPI users it won't
matter if you leave the old server up long enough for everyone to log on and their profiles to change. I'm getting more and more confused the more I look into this.
I found this article which tells you how to move to new hardware with the same name: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822945&product=exch2003 Show quote "Ed Crowley [MVP]" wrote: > You can't keep the same server name.
