In exch 2003 When changing password in OWA before it expires,from options in
outlook the instructions in text box are incorrect.  Users are told to
precede user name with "domain\" but if they do, they are told that there is
an invalid character in the username.  If the user does not enter "domain\",
the password will be updated.
