Intermittent Relay problemsconnector forwarding internet mail to a smarthost in the DMZ which is a Windows 2003 SMTP server (not exchange). Users are complaining that when sending emails they sometimes receive the following message The following recipient(s) could not be reached: x**@xxxx.com on 4/5/2006 8:23 AM You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator. <xxx.xxx.net #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for x**@xxx.com> Now the really weird thing is that if they wait 5, 10 ,15 minutes and then resend it will go through. Sometimes it might fail a few times in a row but eventually it succeeds. I have checked all the configurations over and over and everything looks good. I do not know where to go with this and management is looking for answers. Any support or suggestions on this would be invaluable. Thanks! Scott Why not allow Exchange just to deliver outbound directly?
I'm guessing that the problem is actually the destination domain. I'd guess that there's a MX record listed that doesn't work for them. issue. One thing I did find out is that we are running fixup smtp protocol on the PIX. I'm going to see about getting it disabled Show quote "Ed" wrote: > Why not allow Exchange just to deliver outbound directly? > > I'm guessing that the problem is actually the destination domain.
