Forward emails recived by a distribution group

Exchange 2003 SP2 as part of SBS2003.

I have set up a distribution group with several users, one user requires
email to be forwarded to another address when they are "Out of Office".
When the user is set as out of office, any email sent directly to the user
are forwarded but any emails received as part of the distribution group are
not forwarded.

Any assitance would be great.

cheers

Check if you can do this with an Outlook Rule. Exchange won't do this
for you without 3rd party s/w unless you add the person to the DG.

Hi Mark

I have tried the out look rules to but this refuses to forward email
received from to a distribution list. What 3rd P software do you have in
mind? and should i post this question on the outlook forum?

Cheers

Are you sure?

Apply this rule after the message arrives
    Sent to <group name>
    Forward it to <username>
    And stop processing more rules

The user would probably want to keep this rule disabled most of the time....
and manually enable it when out of office.

You might try microsoft.public.outlook if the above doesn't work.

email is to a distribution list that the user is a member of.

I will post again after i have tried this.

You would need to change it so that the rule said "sent to people or
distro list" rather than sent to the recipient personally.

Hi Mark

Sorry about the delay in responding.
I set the rule up with the
"sent to" set at distribution group
"forward to" set to the exchange contact
"stop processing rules" set to stop

This actually fails but if i tick the box "sent directly to" the rule works
for directly addressed emails, which kind of proves the rule is correct and
"internet message format Properties", but the emails from the distribution
list still do not get forwarded.

If any one could suggest some thing great.

Thanks for your assitance.

Thaks to all who replied but i found another way to accomplish this.  Even
outlook will not forward an email recieved from a distribution to a
distribution group so i used commend line and scripts to put the user in and
out of a set of distribution groups. works fine.

Thanks

Paul
