Ex2K3/ISA 2004 - Enabling Active Sync - Motorola Q

Hello.  Our company has been waiting for the
Motorola Q which will be released pretty soon
by Verizon Wireless.

We have Exchange 2003 SP2(? how do you find
out the SP level of Ex2k3?).  I am already publishing
OWA through ISA 2004 with SSL.

What do I need to prepare the Ex2k3 for Activesync?
And an ISA Server rule?  The vice president may jump
on the Motorola Q as soon as it is available at Verizon.

Anyone here who is a beta tester for the Motorola Q???

Thanks in advance.

Look in Exchange System Manager and drill down to highlight the
"Servers" in the left pane. Jig the column width in the main pane and
there you are.

Does anyone know what ports are used for activesync so I
can prepare a rule in the ISA 2004?

Thanks

80 and 443.  You only need one port open, I would go with 443 and enable
ssl.  In ISA 2004 use the OWA/Exchange activeync setting.

Thanks.  443 is already in effect in the ISA Server for
OWA.

In the Mobile Services Properties in EX2K3, there
is a check box for "Enable Direct Push over HTTPS".
What does this do?  Will it help?  Is this recommended?

Thanks in advance.

If your device has AKU with MSFP this will allow your device to do push sync
using the new HTTP method.  Before this option was available the exchange
server would send a silent sms msg to your device alerting it that there was
new items on the server available for syncing.  The device would then
establish a connection with the server and syncronize the items.  With
Direct Push over HTTPS there is now a heartbeat interval between the device
and the server.  When new items are available on the server the device grabs
the updated items.  This works much better than sms triggered syncing
because you don't need a massive sms plan to us it plus syncing is much
faster because on the items which are new/changed are synced.  You will need
AKU2 with MSFP on your device to take advantage of direct push.

Thank you very much Eric.  We don't have a device yet
but the vice president of our company is going to
purchase the Motorola Q when it comes out hopefully
next week.
