Hello...

I've been receiving the checksum mismatch errors on my SBS2003 server.  I
understand the resolution is to move the mailboxes to a different location.
Do you need to move them to a different server?  I tried to move a test
mailbox but since I have only one server everything was grayed out.  Is
there another way to move the mailbox?  Or is there another work around for
this checksum message??

Thanks for any thoughts...

You have SBS. Y ou can only have one store on the SBS server. You are
able to bring up a member server and install Exchange on it, then move
the mailboxes.

This is the only server we have.  Can the store be moved to another
location??

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Database Page Cache
Event ID: 474
Date:  5/17/2006
Time:  2:00:37 AM
User:  N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
Information Store (1280) First Storage Group: The database page read from
the file "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb" at offset 29454336
(0x0000000001c17000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to
a page checksum mismatch.  The expected checksum was 920911009 (0x36e3fca1)
and the actual checksum was 1994652833 (0x76e3fca1).  The read operation
will fail with error -1018 (0xfffffc06).  If this condition persists then
please restore the database from a previous backup. This problem is likely
due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further
assistance diagnosing the problem.

Do you have Exchange SP2 installed?  This could be a result of Exchange SP2.
Your only option beyond this is to Restore from tape or backup to a state
before the corruption.  If its hardware related, disk drive for example, you
will need to correct/replace before a restore.  You cannot create an
additional Mailbox Store with Standard Version of Exchange.  Here is
Eventid.net suggestions, you should read through these to see if this helps
your issue.

We installed SP2 before we went live with exchange.  We had so many problems
with it we ended up formatting the drive.  So we are running SBS 2003
Premium.  At the time we were expericiencing problems with backups too.  We
kept getting blue screens.  Problem turned out to be some bad memory.  We
haven't had a problem since.  So whether the problem with SP2 was a problem
with SP2 itself or memory we just don't know.

Since I am running Premium, can I create a second store on the server then
move the mailboxes to it??

Thanks for your help with this...

Correct, you cannot create additional mail store with Exchange Standard
Edition which is what is included with SBS Premium.  From the hardware you
issues you just have explained, its possible the database may have been come
corrupted at some point.  Have you tried running ISINTEG and ESEUTIL to see
if these can correct the database error?

I haven't tried this.  From what I've read it kind sounds like the last
option.  What are the dangers in running these??  Everything is running fine
at the moment and I'd hate to make things worse.

Thanks for your help and have a nice weekend...

If everything is running fine, I would not attempt any repair of the
database.  As stated in my previous post regarding Exchange SP2, you can
ignore this error if everything is running fine.  If you really feel
uncomfortable, you can always confirm with Microsoft PSS as they will not
charge you a support call if its a direct result of the Exchange SP2
installation.

If the backup is completing successfully with no errors then its good.  You
could build an offline SBS Server and restore your backup if you really want
to test your backup.  I recommend doing this at least once a year.

BTW:  Ghosting SBS Server is a popular method for quick restores on
different hardware,

No. SBS Premium still includes Exchange Standard. If you have a spare
computer with enough disk space to hold your store you could try this:

Download the trial version of both W2K3 and E2K3 Standard.
Load them on the spaer hardware as a domain member.
Move the mailboxes from SBS to the new server.
Re-create the store/fix your problem on the SBS server.
Move the mailboxes back to SBS.
Remove the 'test' server.
