Forwarding email to ex-employeesI have several ex-employees that we wish to forward email to (for at least 6 months) and would alos like to remove their accounts from exchange, to keep the user count down for av/anti-spam user licence counts. Proposed solution: For each ex-employee create a Contact with their new email address For each employee create a global distribution group with their old email address(es) added to Email-Addresses and the Contact created above added to Members Backup & store their old email account; then Remove Exchange Attributes and disable the user. Can anyone tell me if what there is any downside to what I wish to do, or if a better solution exists. Many thanks, Martin Martin Just another confused user - Exchange licensing is not based on number of mailboxes
- Creating Contacts, inserting the employees' forwarding address as the targetAddress and having their current email address in proxyAddresses for the Contact object should work - no need to create a Distribution Group as such -- Show quoteBharat Suneja MVP - Exchange www.zenprise.com NEW blog location: www.exchangepedia.com/blog ---------------------------------------------- "Martin Smulian" <mar***@msmulian.demon.co.uk> wrote in message news:vj2o72djvjq231aiufl7kdtii7fvbqijqa@4ax.com... > I am running SBS2003 with Exchange 2003 (all patched and service packs). > > I have several ex-employees that we wish to forward email to (for at least > 6 > months) and would alos like to remove their accounts from exchange, to > keep the > user count down for av/anti-spam user licence counts. > > Proposed solution: > > For each ex-employee create a Contact with their new email address > For each employee create a global distribution group with their old email > address(es) added to Email-Addresses and the Contact created above added > to > Members > Backup & store their old email account; then Remove Exchange Attributes > and > disable the user. > > Can anyone tell me if what there is any downside to what I wish to do, or > if a > better solution exists. > > Many thanks, > > > Martin > Martin > Just another confused user Thanks for the advice, I have tried it and it works fine.
It is not the exchange licence count I am trying to limit; the av/anti-psm softare counts the number of exchange users, hence my need to remove users once they have left.
