Removing an Exchange server with Failed Hardware

I would like to move a legacy Exchange server from our network. The hardware
failed and we were only keeping it around for restores. I right clicked on
the Exchange server in the ESM and selected "all tasks" and then "remove
server" and I got the following error message:

The action could not be completed because the Microsoft Exchange Information
Store service is unavailable. Be sure the service is running and you have
network connectivity to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.

Operation: Retrieving mount information
ID no: c1041721
Exchange System Manager

If I right click and select "Delete" on the Exchange server in question then
I get the following:

The server "Exchange" cannot be removed because:
- One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These
users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail
disabled befoer uninstalling this server

Facility: Exchange System Manager
ID no: c103f492
Exchange System Manager

What is the best way to find these users. What can I do with them once I
find them. I'm sure none of them are real users, at most they are accounts
created just to restore. Any help would be appreciated. This is an Exchange
Server 2003 with 6 other Exchange 2003 servers in the same Enterprise, all
SP2.

Is it problematic to use ADSIEdit as described below:

Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP
version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active
Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require
you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server
2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or both
Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if
you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved.
Modify these attributes at your own risk.
To use the ADSI Edit snap-in to remove an Exchange 2003 server from an
Exchange 2003 administrative group, follow these steps:
1.    Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools,
point to Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
2.    Expand each of the following items:
Configuration Container
CN=Configuration, DC=Domain_Name,DC=com
CN=Services
CN=Microsoft Exchange
CN=Your_Organization_Name
CN=Administrative Groups
CN=Your_Administrative_Group_Name_Or_Exchange5.5_Site_Name
CN=Servers

Note In this procedure, Domain_Name is a placeholder for the name of your
domain, Your_Organization_Name is a placeholder for the name of your
organization, and Your_Administrative_Group_Name_Or_Exchange5.5_Site_Name is
a placeholder for the name of your administrative group or Exchange 5.5 site.
3.    Right-click the Exchange 2003 server object, and then click Delete.
4.    Click Yes in every adsiedit dialog box that prompts you to confirm the
deletion.

it's not problematic to use if you understand what you are doing
as far as determining who is reported in AD to have a mailbox on that
server, open ADUC, right click on your domain and select find.
in the find drop down list, select exchange recipients.
on the general tab, uncheck everything except 'users with exchange
mailboxes'
on the storage tab, select 'mailboxes on this server' and put in the server
name
click find now and it will show you everything configured to have a mailbox
on that machine
