Some of my Outlook 2003 users received Undeliverable message on mail
recipient whose mailbox has already been purged, does not exist on any Dist
List.

Users getting this undeliverable message neither emailed the non-existents
mailbox user directly or responded to the email delivered to them via the
distribution list that this old user was a member of in the past.

They are confused as to why they get them.  Your help will be highly
appreciated. Thx

Does some user in your directory have the deleted user configured as an
alternate recipient or delegate?

Hi Ed, thx so much for your post. How do I verify to see which user(s)
granted deleted user as delegate/alternate recipient??  Thx again in advance.

That's kind of tricky.  If you know the distinguished name of the deleted
user, you can search Active Directory for the delegate.  While searching for
the name of that attribute, I stumbled across this article that describes
your scenario exactly:

Ed,

I ran ADSI EDIT and found out that the manager that receives the
Underliverable: FW:  #5.1.1 is currently having 2 delegates that have access
to his mailbox.

They are still with the company.  I don't see old user his admin assistant
in the list of publicDelegates.

He is still having the NDR from that old user.

Should i also run LDIFDE or any other steps to get this fixed. Thx again.

Have you opened that mailbox with Outlook and look at the delegates?  Have
you looked in Active Directory Users and Computers if there are any
alternate recipients?

Also, have you verified that the deleted user isn't a delegate of either of

Ed, I checked them all as you advise. All look good. (clear)...  no nested
delegates and/or alternate recipients...

Ed, I ran the /cleanserverrule command line on the user's mailbox ( the
manager). It fixed the problem.

But, I applied the same to other user's mailbox and did not get fixed. ****
for this one though, he receives the Underliverable: FW:  #5.1.1 on the old
user when he works with Outlook calendar only.. Should I do a seperate post
on this??
