HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable

I am running exchange 2003 on Microsoft SBS 2003.  When I try to access OWA I
get the following error message "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable."  I read
the KB article on mounting the mailboxes and tried to carry out that process
and I get to 66% complete and then it stops and I get the following message:

An internal processing error has occured.  Try restarting the Exchange
System Manager of the Microsoft Exchange Information Services or both.

ID no: c1041724
Exchange System Manager

I am not able to send or receive any email via exchange server. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

James

Have you verified that all the Exchange services are started?  Is there
anything in the event log?

Ed,

I know very little when it comes to exchange so bear with my questions:

1.  What exhange services should be started? At its current state the
following services are started:
microsoft exchange information store
microsoft exchange management
microsoft exchange pop3
microsoft exchange routing engine
microsoft exchange system attendent

the following services are disabled:
microsoft exchange IMAP4
microsoft exchange MTA Stacks
microsoft exchange site replication service

As for the event logs, I am not sure exactly what it is I should be looking
for.

Thanks,

James

Those would be the Exchange services of interest.  How about the IIS
services?

The only thing I can find in computer management under services is the IIS
Admin Service and it is started.  Should I look somewhere else?

The only web related service I found in the Services manager is WebClient and
it is running.  My application event log is full of exchange errors:
"MSExchangeAL (ID 8331)" "MSExchangeSA (ID 9175)" "MSCRMFaxRouterService"

It sounds as if a number of key components are missing from your server, or
SBS does things diffeently.  You could try a reinstall, but I'd post your
query in an SBS newsgroup first because that product is different.  Or
you're welcome to spring for a support call to Microsoft PSS.

I read in a different forum of a person that encountered the EXACT same
problem as me only it was on Exchange 2000.  The verdict was that upon
restoring, some of the files were missing and sever DLL files became
corrupted.  I dont have any emails in exchange that I want to save, we have
not even started using it.  The only thing is that I have it integrated to MS
CRM 3.0 and I am worried that a reinstall will break that integration.  I
just need to get exchange back up and running as soon as possible.  Should I
just do a uninstall/reinstall?

You could do that, but, again, an SBS forum would be a better place to ask
that.
