exchange event logfull restore of C:\: "I am running exchange 2003 on Microsoft SBS 2003. When I try to access OWA I get the following error message "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" I am not able to send or receive any email via exchange server. Any thoughts?" I try to mount the mailbox stores and 66% of the way through and I get the following error: "An internal processing error has occured. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager of the Microsoft Exchange Information Services or both. ID no: c1041724 Exchange System Manager" The following errors show up in the event log immediately after trying to mount the mailbox Event Type: Error Event Source: ESE Event Category: Logging/Recovery Event ID: 454 Date: 10/22/2007 Time: 3:06:18 PM User: N/A Computer: VILDENCRMSERVER Description: Information Store (1136) First Storage Group: Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error -515. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeIS Event Category: General Event ID: 9518 Date: 10/22/2007 Time: 3:06:19 PM User: N/A Computer: VILDENCRMSERVER Description: Error 0xfffffdfd starting Storage Group /DC=com/DC=vilden-sales/CN=Configuration/CN=Services/CN=Microsoft Exchange/CN=VILDEN-SALES/CN=Administrative Groups/CN=first administrative group/CN=Servers/CN=VILDENCRMSERVER/CN=InformationStore/CN=First Storage Group on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store. Storage Group - Initialization of Jet failed. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. I have followed the kb article: Http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822449 and I get a repair count of "Zero" and a database state of "dirty shutdown" And lastly the following error message occurs regularly in the event viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: MAPI Session Event ID: 9175 Date: 10/22/2007 Time: 3:23:29 PM User: N/A Computer: VILDENCRMSERVER Description: The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000 For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. I hope I have provided detailed enough information to resolve this issue, thanks so much, James -515 means invalid log sequence. Something is wrong with the logs for the
restored database. Have you tried these steps: 1. Restore all the online backups to the recovery server: a. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup. b. Click the Restore tab, click to select the files to restore, and then click Start Restore. c. In the Restoring Database Store dialog box, type the name of the folder where you want to temporarily locate the log files in the Temporary location for the log and patch files box, and then click OK. Important Do not click to select the Last Backup Set check box. You can only copy all the transaction logs to the temporary restore folder before you start the manual replay process if you leave this check box unselected. d. In the Enter Backup File name dialog box, enter the location of the backup file, and then click OK. 2. Copy all the offline log files to the Temp_restore_folder\Storage_group_name folder, where Temp_restore_folder is the temporary restore folder that you defined in the restoration process and Storage_group_name is the name of the storage group. 3. Make sure that the log files are contiguous. Log replay only plays forward as long as the sequence is contiguous. When the sequence is interrupted, replay stops. 4. After you are satisfied with the state of the log files, switch to the Temp_restore_folder\Storage_group_name folder, and then run either of the following commands from the command prompt: c:\exchsrvr\bin\eseutil /cc -or- c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin\eseutil /cc These commands force an Eseutil manual log recovery. After this process is complete, you can manually mount the databases that you restored. In the Application event log, an Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) event ID 204 information message is logged to indicate the start of recovery, and then a series of ESE event ID 301 information messages are logged. These information messages indicate the exact log numbers that are recovered. Finally, an ESE event ID 205 information message is logged to indicate that the recovery process is complete. Thanks so much for your detailed response. There is one problem however, we dont have a backup that was done prior to encountering this problem. Exchange stopped working 2-3 months ago and I am now just getting to it. What this means is that there is no data that I care to save. We have not started to use exchange, and only plan to use it as a part of MS CRM 3.0. It is integrated with CRM and I would prefer not to break that integration and have to reconfigure it, but if thats what it takes then thats ok. My number one priority is to get exchange back up and running. Should I just do a reinstall or is there another way? Many thanks, James Show quote "John Fullbright" wrote: > -515 means invalid log sequence. Something is wrong with the logs for the > restored database. > > Have you tried these steps: > > 1. 1. go in ESM and on the properties of the storage group note the path to the logs. 2. delete the logs and chk file 3. go into ESM and on the properties of the database note the path to the database 4. delete the database files 5. start the IS 6. mount the store. Click through the warnings and a new blank database will be created. 7. Send a message to each user homed on the server to reinstance the mailboxes. I successfully delete both the trasnaction log files and the the chk file, as well as the database for public and private mailstore. I started MSExchangeIS and went to mount the store. I clicked through the warnings to create a new blank data base and it got to 100% but then I got the same pop up error "c1041724." I restarted both SA and IS and tried to mount again and got the same error again. What you've done is reset the database. One question: How did you delete the old stores and logs? Which files? If you missed the stm files, you could see something like this. I have also seen issues where there was not enough space to create the new blank databases when they were moved to another folder or sent to the recycle bin.
