VPN access to mailbox moved to new Exchange serverHello,
I am in the process of moving mailboxes from one Exchange 2003 server to a new Exchange 2003 server in the same site/location. Problem is I have numerous users that only access their mailbox through PPTP VPN. Never had a problem with users connecting to the VPN or their mailboxes on the original Exchange server. But now, upon testing with a dummy account, I realized the Outlook will not automatically change their Exchange server name to reflect the new location. I know it does this when you are connected and joined to the domain locally. Seems it will not update this through the VPN connection. I have security policies in place on the remote computers that will not allow the users to make this settings change so I cannot move their mailboxes to the new server. Any suggestions on how to automate this process? Seems there would be a way to have the users run a .reg file perhaps that would update it in the registry? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. It shouldn't work any differently through VPN, and I can assure you that I
VPN all the time to my work computer, and every time my mailbox is moved Outlook doesn't miss a beat. I suspect that your problem has to do with name resolution. Are your VPNed users getting their DNS from the correct source? -- Ed Crowley MVP - Exchange "Protecting the world from PSTs and brick backups!" Hi Ed and thanks for the reply. The VPN users are getting name resolution
firts locally with their ISP, but when they attach to the VPN they are getting our two internal DNS servers via DHCP. When I move a mailbox and then try to open Outlook, it hangs for a minute or two and then says the Exchange server is unavailable. Can't seem to figure out why.
