exchange mta stacks on sbs 2003

We have been having some random issues with emails not being sent by the
exchange server until the services are restarted or the server restarted.  so
I have been reading and noticed that on small business server Exchange MTA
Stacks is disabled by default.  It is not running right now on our server.
could that be the cause of our issues?  Is there something to think about
when starting this service, i.e. issues or problems that might occur and the
reason why microsoft disables it?  thanks.

Can you download the SBS Best Practice Analyzer and run it against your SBS
box?  Have you enabled any kind of message tracking on the SBS Server?

I hadn't heard of that before.  I will download it and run it.

I enabled message tracking yesterday.  So I am reviewing the emails now to
see if I can see anything.

Yes, SBS BPA was just released and it works really well in analyzing your
SBS server.

Thanks the things of interest to me were:

Critical:
POP3 Connector has not been updated
SBS 2003 Service Pack 1 not installed (windows server service pack 1 is
installed)  I am not sure why windows update sent windows server and not sbs.
Any thoughts?

Other Issues:
/Exchange-oma local path does not match /exchange
POP3 connector snap-in has not been updated

I am working on something else and haven't had a chance to research these,
but if you know off of the top of your head what the repercussions of these
might be that would be helpful.  thanks for the help

I would definitely update your SBS Server to the latest SP's.  This includes
Exchange,

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=B6F8A4C0-B707-4161-ADEB-44F1B756119F&displaylang=en

Are you even using POP3 Connector?  I was assuming you were using SMTP for
your SBS?

Ok, thanks I will install that update .

And yes we are using smtp, but I wanted to include the information in case
there was some aspect of the delivery system I didn't know about that the
pop3 update could affect.  But I won't worry about that one.
