Info Store Service doesn't auto-start

We recently upgraded from XCH2k to XCH2k3, because we ran into the 16gb
problem. We were having a problem a few weeks before the upgrade with XCH2k,
that the Information Store Service would not start if the server was
rebooted. It was set to "Automatic", but we would have to go in and manually
start it. When we switched to XCH2k3 (on a completely different server, by
the way), everything was fine...until yesterday. We still have the old XCH2k
server (running windows  server 2k SP4) as the DC and running AD. The new
XCH2k3 server (running Windows Server 2k3 R2) is just an Exchange server. We
noticed that a few recently added employees' mailboxes were stored on the
XCH2k server, so we moved the mailboxes over to the XCH2k3 server. We also
just downloaded the updates that were available for Server 2003 R2 from the
Windows Update feature.
Now, when we reboot the XCH2k3 server, the Information Store Service, which
is set on "Automatic" does not start. We have to go in manually and start
it.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
