Exhange Ate Email Messages

We are running Exchange 2000 under Windows 2000 server.  Some users complain
that they never receive their emails.    These are internal emails.  Is
there a way to check to see if the mail messages actually delivered to
recipients?

Thanks.

Message tracking, if you have it enabled.

Are those the log files ending with the .log?  Do you open them with
Wordpad?  These files are 5 MB.  I tried to import them to excel, but I was
not able to import all the records.  Thanks.

Thanks so much for the information.  I have this dumb question.  Is there a
way to find out how to interpret the log file?  For example, I looked at one
of the messages in the log file.  Under Partner-Name field, it said
/O=COMPANY/OU=Purchasing/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=MAILSERVER/cn=Microsoft
Private MDB.  What does "Microsoft Private MDB" mean?  If I should not
concern about this, please let me know.   I am comparing the messages that
the sender sent.  The messages that have the above notation are the messages
that the recipients do not receive.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional
information.

      Thanks.

What do you see in plain old message tracking for these users' mail (not in
logfiles)?

Is all the mail in question internal? Is some external? And are you sharing
an Internet domain namespace internally with any other mail server?

Thanks for your questions.  The Message Tracking system shows the sender
name and recipient names, date and time.  These messages in the Message
Tracking system look normal.  These are all internal email messages.  We do
not share Internet Domain Namespace with any other mail server.

Please let me know if you need additional information.

Thanks.

Meaning, they say the message was delivered? If they say it was delivered to
the user's mailbox, it was.

You may have problems in your mail clients (PST files, filtered views) or
you may have users who weren't paying close attention when they hit Delete.

Thanks for your response.  I lied to you.  I did not read the detail
information.  If I click on the message after the Tracking Message system
displayed the messages, I get the following information:

    Report generated internally
Report delivered to Smith_John (name of the sender)

Could it be possible that the sender's mailbox was full and Exchange would
not deliver any more messages?

If the messages are delivered to recipients, I would see several lines about
SMTP and recipient's mailbox.

Please let me know if you need additional information.  Thanks.

Diane

Yes, or antivirus/antispam software grabbed it.

Time to do more looking at your server, I'd say  :)
