Information Store service shuts down continuously

Hello:  I am running Exchange 2003 with SP2.  The Microsoft Exchange Server
information store service keeps shutting down.  This problem just started
happening suddenly.  The Exchange server had been running fine for several
months.  In the System Event Viewer, the event ID is 7034.  The error message
is:

"Service Control Manager: The Microsoft Exchange Server information store
service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time (or 2 times, 3
times, etc.)".

I can go in to services and manually re-start it, but it shuts down again
within a few seconds, or sometimes a few minutes.  Obviously, without this
service running, Exchange is pretty much impossible.  Can't send or receive
e-mail.  Can't get into public folders.

I installed a Microsoft Hotfix from KB935468 which said it would address
this problem, but unfortunately, it did NOT fix it.

I also checked the integrity of the Exchange database by running eseutil /G.
The scan revealed no problems.  I then ran Isinteg -s <servername> -test
folder on both the mailbox store and the public folder store and it showed no
errors (I had dismounted both stores prior to running these utilities).

Any other thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Adam V.

Make sure no anti virus product is running against the mail stores and logs
or against the exchange binaries.
you're not running an evaluation version by any change? Did you ever repair
the installation/server?

We have Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, but just the regular version,
NOT the one that protects Exchange.  I've excluded several Exchange-related
folders/files from File System Auto Protect:
- C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr
- Several iis.dll files in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\ as well as
inetinfo.exe, inetmgr.dll and inetmgr.exe in the same location.
I hadn't excluded the MDBDATA folder which has a bunch of log files in it.
Are there any other locations or file types I should be excluding?

When you ask if I ever repaired the installation/server, are you asking if
I've run a repair from within add/remove programs, or are you asking if I've
ever had to repair this server (Windows Server 2003).

Thanks.

"I hadn't excluded the MDBDATA folder which has a bunch of log files in it."

Make sure you exclude the transaction logs.

Here are some best practices:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245822

If you have an M drive with the mailboxes mapped also never scan that.

The repair install was about windows and exchanges installation repaiers yes
just in case that has left some unwanted registry entries or other issues.
Just asked to see if that has happend.

Cheers
