emails in sub foldersSeeking help in determining problem with an exchange server 5.5 version. All
was fine until notice this morning some inbox sub folders email was missing for some users. Others it was their contacts list, exchange server was fine the day before. Made sure all that needed to run in "Services" was on. Where does exchange keep all emails (sub dir emails also) contacts etc. in system manager? Could not find even if there is a place to look. POP3 accounts would place them in C:\docs and settings\etc. and you could import them back in. Any help would be appreciated. On Tue, 27 Nov 2007 07:41:01 -0800, teddkilroy

viruses. something tells me this may or may not of been due to a unsuccessful backup. using retrospect backup software with an exchange agent to backup store+mailboxes. change ext. usb drive for a larger one and re-config my scripts. came in this morning and backup had froze DC. had to restart system so users could login etc.. not quite sure as to how it affected usres in the way it did though?backing up store/db/mailboxes would not affect real time exchange server/.edb right? is there a utility to repair the .edb file? messages. Since you are backing up mailbox items you can obviously do a restore but without more to go on it's a little difficult to diagnose. Keep an eye on the maintenance that's going on and all application logs. error messages in outlook? event viewer?

other than this:
Product: Windows Operating System ID: 1058 Source: Userenv Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: EVENT_GPT_NOTACCESSIBLE Message: Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO %1. The file must be present at the location <%2>. (%3). Group Policy processing aborted. I now seem to be the only one to have not recovered data.
